Personal Support services are hands-on services that assist a person with critical day-to-day activities that they are unable to perform on their own. Often referred to as Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) these services will frequently be enough to allow a person to remain in their own home, rather than transfer to assisted living or a nursing home. These are all extremely basic and crucial needs that, if not met, would compromise a person’s ability to live safely at home on their own. There are a number of benefits to choosing this type of in home care over an assisted living facility or a nursing home. Most seniors would prefer to be able to live out their life in their own home, particularly if they are still able to receive a level of companionship that personal care services provide. Oftentimes, having help with simple tasks is enough to allow an elderly person to live safely and comfortably at home for years. While there is a certain cost involved with personal home care, it is most often significantly less than what the cost of assisted living or a nursing home would be. Personal care attendants are able to focus on the precise needs of the client. Every situation is completely different and while some may need 24 hour care, others may only require an hour or so per day.
We have found that personal care services allow our senior clients to enjoy a wonderful quality of life, thanks to their ability to live at home, maintain a degree of independence and form a close bond with their caregiver.
The goal of companion care is primarily emotional support and socialization, although companions may help older adults with a variety of tasks. Companions typically make regular visits, which may vary in frequency depending on the care recipient’s unique needs. Usually, companions visit at least weekly, while some may visit two to three times per week or even daily to help older adults prepare meals, take care of laundry, and other tasks.
Cognitive and memory care is designed to provide a safe, structured environment with set routines to lower stress for people with Alzheimer's, dementia or other cognitive disorders that interferes with their mental health or quality of life. These individuals often exhibit wandering behaviors, personality changes as their illness progresses. Our staff are experienced in deal ing with the unique issues that often arise as a result of these conditions.
Respite care provides temporary relief for a primary caregiver, enabling you to take a much-needed break from the demands of caregiving a sick, aging, or disabled family member. Respite care can take place in your own home, at day-care centers, or at residential or nursing facilities that offer overnight stays. Whether it’s for just a few hours a week or an extended vacation, seeking respite care can help ease the burden of family caregiving and help to relieve stress, restore your energy, and promote balance in your life. It can also prevent you from becoming exhausted, isolated, or even burned out. Respite care can benefit the person you’re caring for, too, providing them with variety, stimulation, and a welcome change of routine.
Seeking support and maintaining your own health are key to managing your role as a caregiver so it’s not selfish to need time to yourself. If you’re overwhelmed by the daily grind of caregiving, your patience and compassion will wear thin, you’ll find it harder to connect with the person you’re caring for, and you’ll probably both feel unfulfilled. After a break to recharge your batteries, though, you’ll feel more energetic, focused, and reinvigorated about your caregiving role. You may even be able to pick up tips on new ways to tackle common problems you face as a caregiver, helping to make the caregiving journey a more enjoyable and rewarding experience for both you and the loved one in your care.
At HOME CARE FOR ME we provide a special kind of care that focuses on the quality of life for our clients who are experiencing an advanced, life-limiting illness. Our caregivers provide compassionate care for people in the last phases of incurable disease so that they may live as fully and comfortably as possible Our caregivers are available to provide additional support and work in conjunction with family, social services, and medical team. They will make sure that any symptoms are under control and give any needed care and services. Pain management and a comfortable dignified environment is our main goal.
It’s important to know that home hospice may require that someone be home with the patient 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This may be a problem for people who live alone or whose partner or adult children have full-time jobs. But in most cases, creative scheduling of caregivers and good team work among friends and loved ones can overcome this problem.
